A repair bill is three things: the diagnostic, the part, and the labour to fit it. Our diagnostic is $69, and it comes off the bill when you approve the repair — so on a job that goes ahead you are paying for the part and the work, not for the visit.

The part is the half that varies most. A small switch and a major control or sealed-system component can require similar access but have very different part costs. That is why two dishwasher repairs that sound identical on the phone can produce different quotes once the machine is diagnosed, and why we give a fixed price after diagnosis rather than inventing one before it.

When repairing stops making sense

The rule we use, and tell customers on the phone: if the repair costs more than half of a comparable replacement and the appliance is past about ten years old, replacing is usually the better value. Under that, repair almost always wins — especially for built-in and premium units, where replacement drags cabinetry and installation costs along with it.

We will tell you which side of that line you are on after diagnosis, including when the answer costs us the job. A technician who only ever recommends repair is not giving you information.

How to keep the bill down

Two things genuinely help. Describe the symptom precisely when you book — what it does, when it started, what you have already tried — because a technician who arrives with the likely part fixes it in one visit instead of two. And deal with symptoms early: a dishwasher problem caught while it is still intermittent is nearly always a cheaper repair than the same fault after it has taken something else with it.

Why don't you publish a median for this appliance?

Because we do not yet have enough completed dishwasher jobs for a median to mean anything. Publishing a number from a handful of jobs would look authoritative and be close to meaningless, so we explain what changes the quote and wait for a real local sample before publishing figures.

What does the warranty cover?
