Frigidaire Dishwasher i30 Error Code: Causes & Fixes

i30 means the flood float in the base pan has tripped. A float sits under the tub, and when water collects there it rises and cuts the cycle to stop the machine flooding your kitchen. The code is doing its job: something has let water out of the tub, or the machine has produced so much foam that it has overflowed. It is worth treating promptly, because until the pan is dry the dishwasher will refuse to run at all.

If the reset didn't clear i30 / iF0

A technician can come out and diagnose it, the same day when a window is open — $69 diagnostic, applied to the repair.

Common causes

Over-sudsing

Regular dish soap in place of dishwasher detergent, or far too much detergent, produces foam that climbs out of the tub and into the base pan. This is the most common cause and the easiest to fix — it is not a broken machine.

A genuine leak

A door seal that has hardened, a loose hose clamp, or a cracked spray arm bearing letting water past. The float is reporting a real problem and the source has to be found.

The machine is not level

A dishwasher tilted forward lets water sit against the door seal and past it. Delivery and cabinet work are the usual reasons a machine ends up out of level.

Float switch stuck or failed

The float itself jams up with debris, or its switch fails closed, and the machine reports a flood that is not there. The least common cause, and the one to suspect only once the pan is confirmed dry.

What you can safely try

  1. Cut the power and soak up the water in the base pan. Turn the dishwasher off at the breaker. Pull the lower kick plate and reach in with towels until the pan is genuinely dry — the code will not clear while the float is up.
  2. If there was foam, rinse the tub out. Run a rinse-only cycle with no detergent at all, twice if the foam was heavy. Then use dishwasher detergent only, in the dose the door dispenser is marked for.
  3. Look for where the water came from. With the kick plate off, check the door seal all the way round for hardening or tears, and look at the hose clamps under the tub for drips. A pan that fills again after drying is a leak, not sudsing.

When to call a professional

If the pan refills after you have dried it, there is an active leak and finding it means pulling the machine out from under the counter. Call us. Also worth calling if the pan is dry and the code persists — that points at the float switch itself, and a dishwasher that will not run because it believes it is flooding is no more useful than one that is.

What it costs

If you fix it yourself: $0 (drying the base pan, clearing suds, correcting detergent).

With a technician: A fixed price after diagnosis, agreed before any work starts; the diagnostic fee is applied to the repair when you approve it.

Frequently asked questions

I used regular dish soap once. Is that really the cause?

Very likely, and it is a repair you can do yourself. Hand dish soap is designed to foam and dishwasher detergent is designed not to; one dose produces enough suds to climb out of the tub into the base pan and trip the float. Run two rinse-only cycles with no detergent, dry the pan, and the machine usually comes back.

The code cleared but came back a week later.

That is the pattern of a slow leak rather than a one-off sudsing incident. A hardened door seal or a weeping hose clamp puts a small amount of water in the pan on each cycle until the float trips again. It is worth finding, because the same water is also sitting against your cabinetry and flooring.

Can I just disconnect the float so it runs?

Please do not. That float is the only thing standing between a leaking dishwasher and water across your kitchen floor and into the cabinets around it. The code is inconvenient; what it prevents is expensive. If the machine is genuinely dry and the float is at fault, the switch is the part to replace.
