The kind of cooktop decides where a repair starts. On a radiant glass-top, each burner is cycled by an infinite switch, a bimetal switch that clicks the element on and off to hold a setting, or by relays on the control board on touch models; a burner stuck on high or dead on every setting usually points to that switch or relay, not the element. Induction cooktops have no hot element at all: a power board drives a copper coil at high frequency, and faults tend to sit in that board, its cooling fan, or the pan-detection circuit. Gas cooktops depend on clean burner ports, dry igniters, and a working spark module. Yellow or Lifting Gas Flame
A healthy flame is blue with small, even cones. Yellow, lazy, or lifting flames point to blocked ports, a misseated burner cap, or an orifice set for the wrong gas type. If you smell gas, close the valve, leave, and call your gas utility first.

How long a cooktop should last
Thirteen to fifteen years for gas and electric, and induction units generally do well too — their weak point is the electronics rather than the surface.
Is it worth repairing?
Burners, igniters, switches and elements are inexpensive and worth doing. Two things change the answer: a cracked glass or ceramic surface, where the replacement panel often approaches the price of a new cooktop, and an induction generator board, which is the expensive component in that design. Both get priced before anything is committed.
What changes the price
The technology. A gas igniter or an electric element is a stocked, quick repair. Induction faults mean the generator board and its sensing, which is a costlier part and a longer diagnosis.

Can a cracked cooktop be repaired?

Do you repair induction cooktops?
Yes. We diagnose induction coil, pan-sensor, cooling-fan, and power-board faults, and test the coil and board before quoting a part.
Is it safe to keep using a glass cooktop with a small crack?
No. A crack lets spills reach the element and wiring underneath, and the glass can split further as it heats and cools. Switch the cooktop off at the breaker and stop using it until the glass top is replaced.
Why does my gas cooktop keep clicking after the burner lights?
The spark module fires whenever a burner switch reads as on. Water from a boil-over inside a switch, a cracked ceramic igniter, or a burner cap sitting off-center are the usual causes. Let a wet cooktop dry out for a day; if it still clicks, the switch or spark module needs testing.
Does my cookware matter on an induction cooktop?
Yes. Induction only heats pans a magnet sticks to firmly, such as cast iron and most stainless steel. Aluminum, copper, glass, and some thin stainless pans are not detected, and a warped base can make a zone pulse. If a pan that passes the magnet test is also ignored, the fault is in the cooktop.
When is a cooktop worth replacing instead of repairing?
It depends on the part and the age of the cooktop. A switch, element, igniter, or spark module is a contained repair. A glass top or induction power board is a larger part, and on an older or discontinued model it may no longer be available; if so, we tell you at the diagnostic, before you approve any repair.
