LG Refrigerator Repair in South Florida

LG fridge not cooling? We separate a linear compressor failure from the cheaper faults that imitate one, and quote before any work starts.

How LG builds these

An LG fridge runs a linear compressor rather than a conventional reciprocating one, and that single choice changes the diagnostic path: there is no conventional start relay to blame, the unit can be quiet when healthy, and compressor operation needs to be measured rather than guessed by sound. LG pairs that compressor with an inverter board that drives it at variable speed, a single evaporator on most French-door and bottom-freezer cabinets with a damper to the fresh-food side, and on the InstaView and Door-in-Door models an ice maker that lives in the door with its own fill path and chute.

What can fail on an LG refrigerator

  • Linear compressor failure — A failed linear compressor can leave the cabinet lit and the fans running while neither compartment gets cold. The same symptom can also come from a fan, sensor, defrost, or sealed-system fault, so compressor operation is measured before one is quoted.
  • Inverter board — The compressor is driven by an inverter board that varies its speed, and a board that has stopped commanding the compressor looks exactly like a dead compressor from the outside. The board's output and the compressor's windings are measured separately so that a board is not replaced for a compressor fault, or the reverse.
  • Sealed-system leak — Slow loss of cooling over weeks rather than a sudden stop can point toward a refrigerant or sealed-system problem. It presents like a failing compressor and is a different job entirely, so the two get separated before anything is quoted.
  • Evaporator fan and defrost sensor — A lower-cost branch of a 'not cooling' diagnosis, and the reason a compressor should not be quoted before the fan and defrost circuit are tested.
  • Damper and fresh-food thermistor — Milk warm with the ice cream hard points at the path between the compartments: a damper stuck closed, or a thermistor telling the control the fresh-food side is already cold. Both are checked before anything in the sealed system is considered.
  • Ice maker assembly — Frosting and slow production on a French-door unit can come from the fill path, airflow, seals or the assembly itself, so water delivery and icing are checked before the assembly is blamed.

Where we start

We check whether the compressor is actually running, before anything else — a linear compressor gives little useful audible evidence, so it gets metered rather than listened to, and that measurement helps separate a fan or sensor fault from sealed-system work. After the compressor, the condenser and its fan, the evaporator frost pattern and the damper are checked in that order, and the sealed system is the last branch rather than the first.

Diagnosis uses an on-board error code plus LG's SmartDiagnosis where the model supports it, used as a starting point rather than a replacement for electrical and temperature measurements; with the back panel off, the inverter board's blink code and the compressor's current draw are read directly, and the thermistors are compared against their resistance chart.

fans, sensors, ice-maker assemblies and boards are often available locally, while a compressor or sealed-system repair may require a dedicated part order and a longer appointment; we identify which path you are on before you approve the repair, and the two paths carry very different quotes, and the labour is backed for 90 days.

Frequently asked questions

My LG refrigerator stopped cooling but everything else works. Is the compressor gone?

Maybe, but lights and fans do not prove a compressor fault. A linear compressor can be hard to judge by sound, so we meter the compressor and check airflow, sensors, defrost and the sealed system before quoting the expensive branch of the repair.

The back of my LG fridge is hot and the inside is warm. What does that mean?

Heat at the back means the compressor is running and rejecting heat, which rules out a dead compressor and points at something else: a dirty condenser, a failed condenser fan, a frosted evaporator, or a sealed-system restriction. We confirm which with temperature and pressure readings rather than assuming the worst.

My LG makes a clicking or knocking sound every few minutes.

A linear compressor that cannot start, or that is being commanded by a faulty inverter board, can click or knock as it attempts to run. The sound is a reason to measure the compressor and the board rather than a diagnosis in itself; a loose line or a defrost cycle can make similar noises for entirely different reasons.

Is an LG refrigerator worth repairing?

It depends on which failure it is. An evaporator fan, defrost sensor or ice-maker assembly is generally a less invasive repair than sealed-system work; completion time depends on the exact model and part availability. A compressor or sealed-system failure on an older unit is where the repair-versus-replace calculation deserves a real quote rather than a guess.

Do you work on LG's linear compressors?

Yes, including the diagnosis that separates a compressor failure from faults that can imitate one. We are an independent shop with no relationship to LG. If your unit may still be covered by a manufacturer warranty, check with LG first because qualifying parts or labor may be covered under the terms of that warranty.
