Amana Appliance Repair
Amana refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, range and microwave repair in Miami-Dade and Broward. Whirlpool-platform parts, older Amana-built designs, straight answers on repair versus replacement, and a same-day visit whenever a slot is free.
Amana was founded in Amana, Iowa in 1934 as a refrigeration company, introduced the Radarange countertop microwave in 1967 under Raytheon's ownership, built its own distinctive bottom-freezer refrigerators and Speed Queen-derived washers for decades, and passed to Maytag in 2001 and to Whirlpool in 2006. Today the residential Amana line is Whirlpool's value tier: top-load washers with a dual-action agitator on the vertical-modular platform, 29-inch dryers, top-freezer and side-by-side refrigerators, plastic-tub dishwashers, coil-top and smooth-top ranges and over-the-range microwaves, all built on Whirlpool platforms with fewer features and simpler controls.
That simplicity is good news for repair. An Amana usually has a mechanical timer or a basic electronic control rather than a touch panel, the parts cross-reference directly to Whirlpool and Maytag numbers, and nothing in the cabinet is exotic. RapidFix Appliance Repair technicians work on both the current Whirlpool-built machines and the older Amana-designed refrigerators and washers still running in Miami-Dade and Broward homes, and we are an independent company with no connection to Amana or Whirlpool.
Amana appliances we repair: Top-Freezer & Side-by-Side Refrigerators, Bottom-Freezer Refrigerators (Amana-era designs), Top-Load Washers, Electric & Gas Dryers, Dishwashers, Gas & Electric Ranges, Over-the-Range & Countertop Microwaves.
Common Amana problems
Top-load washer won't spin, or spins but leaves clothes wet
Amana's current top-loaders use Whirlpool's vertical-modular design: a shifter and actuator switch the motor between agitate and spin, a lid lock has to confirm the lid is down, and a drain pump has to empty the tub before spin is allowed. A no-spin is traced through those three in order, and a wet load at the end of a completed cycle usually points at the actuator failing to engage spin or a pump slowed by a sock.
Dryer runs but stays cold
The 29-inch Whirlpool platform under an Amana dryer protects the heater with a thermal fuse on the blower housing and a high-limit thermostat on the heater can. The fuse opens when the vent restricts and the dryer overheats, and once it is open the dryer runs cold until it is replaced — along with clearing the restriction that opened it. The element, cycling thermostat and, on gas models, the igniter and valve coils are metered in the same visit.
Refrigerator warm, compressor clicking
A click every few minutes from the back of a top-freezer or side-by-side is the start relay and overload trying and failing to start the compressor. The relay is tested, the compressor windings are checked for resistance to each other and to ground, and only then is the compressor itself condemned. The condenser fan and a dusty condenser are checked too, because an overheated compressor trips the overload exactly the same way.
Freezer frosting, fridge section warming over days
Whirlpool-platform Amana refrigerators defrost on an adaptive control that fires a heater under the evaporator through a bimetal thermostat. When any of the three fails, frost builds until the evaporator fan has nothing to move and the fresh-food side warms slowly. Pulling the freezer back panel shows the pattern immediately, and the heater, bimetal and board are each tested.
Dishwasher won't start or won't drain
The plastic-tub Whirlpool dishwasher behind the Amana badge has a door latch with switches, a thermal fuse on the control, a wash motor and a separate drain pump. A dead panel is the fuse or the latch; standing water is the drain path — including the disposal connection and its knockout plug on new installs — before it is the pump. We also check the chopper and the wash arm when the complaint is dirty dishes.
Microwave runs but doesn't heat
The turntable turns and the light is on, but food stays cold: the magnetron, the high-voltage diode, the capacitor or a door interlock switch has failed. The high-voltage section holds a charge after unplugging and is not a homeowner repair. On over-the-range models we also check the door switches and the membrane keypad, which fails as a cluster of dead buttons.
RapidFix Appliance Repair repairs Amana refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges and microwaves throughout Miami-Dade and Broward. Amana appliances are often the ones in a rental unit, a first home or a garage, bought on price, and the question that comes with these calls is whether to fix them at all. The answer is usually yes, for a reason specific to the brand: an Amana is a Whirlpool platform with simple controls, so the failed part is generally a coupling, a fuse, a relay, a pump, an element or a latch — inexpensive, available and quick to fit — rather than a touch-screen board or a sealed-system assembly. We give you that answer with the fixed quote in hand rather than as a rule of thumb.
Older Amana-designed machines are still around too: the bottom-freezer refrigerators with the glass shelves and the heavy Amana-built top-loaders from before the Maytag purchase. Those use their own parts and their own logic, and we service them where parts can still be found. Every Amana visit starts with a $69 diagnostic that is applied to the repair you approve, and every repair carries 90 days on labor and up to 12 months on parts. We work in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs and across both counties; call (754) 888-5560 and we will offer the first open slot, same day when there is one.
Frequently asked questions
Is Amana just a cheaper Whirlpool?
Mechanically, close to it. Since 2006 Amana has been Whirlpool's value brand, built on Whirlpool platforms with mechanical timers or basic electronic controls in place of touch panels, and the service parts cross-reference directly. The pre-2001 Amana-designed refrigerators and washers are a different story and are repaired on their own terms.
My Amana top-loader fills and agitates but will not spin.
On the vertical-modular platform that points at the shifter and actuator, the lid lock, or a drain pump that has not emptied the tub — the control will not allow spin until it has. We run the console test to read the stored code, then check those three in order. None of them involves the motor, which is tested only if they pass.
Why did my Amana dryer suddenly stop heating?
A thermal fuse on the blower housing has probably opened, and it opens because the dryer overheated — a restricted vent is the usual reason. We replace the fuse, meter the element and thermostats, and clear or document the vent restriction, because a new fuse in a restricted dryer opens again.
Is an Amana refrigerator worth repairing?
If the fault is the start relay, a fan, the defrost heater, a thermistor or the ice maker — yes, almost always, because those are modest repairs on a simple cabinet. If the compressor or the sealed system has failed on an older top-freezer, we compare the fixed quote against the cost of a comparable new unit with you and recommend plainly.
Do you repair Amana over-the-range microwaves?
Yes. Magnetron, diode, capacitor, door interlock switches, the turntable motor and the keypad are the parts we replace; the high-voltage circuit is discharged and tested with the proper tools. If the microwave is a very old countertop unit we will tell you honestly whether the repair makes sense against its replacement.
What does Amana repair cost?
The diagnostic is $69, and it comes off the repair when you approve the quote. The quote is one fixed figure for the part and the labor; Amana parts are Whirlpool parts and are rarely expensive, but we never guess the number — the technician confirms the part first.
